Why is there so little support for Tupac in the younger generation? Posted: 20 Jan 2003 02:41 AM |
It really gets to me how people aged 20 & down think Tupac's shit, why is this? I'm 18 - and feel alienated in music taste. Its weird, how can people say Eminem is better than 2Pac, they go beyond persnoal opinion and flat out say Tupac's shit.
I know how people think its not "cool" to like old music, but still whats Eminem got over Pac? |

shit im 17 and i been listenin to Pac since i was 13. Eminem is good, no doubt, but Pac is way better. Tha problem is tha younger generations dont care bout meaning of songs or skills. They care about what is getting tha most radio play. My lil homie Ian whose 15, likes Ja Rule and Nelly. I asked what he liked about them, he was like listen to this song, he put on air force ones, i was like you know there rappin aboutn shoes right, he was like ya those shoes are awesome. I was like listen to this song, i put on changes, hes like that songs old. i was like so just listen to tha lyrics, he was like its about all black people makin changes, i was like ya. He was like so what Ja Rules a pimp, hes always got hot girls all over him. Ive got him listening to some Pac songs now, like Picture me rollin, all eyez on me, life of an outlaw, some other stuff. But he just doesnt get it. and no matter how hard i try i cant get through to him. |

I'm also 18 bro, but the reason is... I know over here anyway, (UK) ppl around our age or lower, would think that someone like Eminem or Ja Rule is better than Pac, for the simple reason, that they're just getting into hip-hop. They ain't heard the real shit, like Pac' & old skool. They just know the commercial shit, that gets put out...
I ain't got nothing against Em, cause he's one of, if not the best in the game TODAY still comes NO WAY near Pac' though...
I don't hear anyone here say Pac's shit, If I did here em say it, then I wouldn't stand for it. But like I said they're all mostly into the commercial shit, for some fucked up reason... Just ignorant to good music.
When I'm ever at my mates gaff, & he's playing some heavy garage shit, I always get him to turn it off, & put on some proper rap...
But alotta ppl our age here, mainly listen to Garage shit anyway... Don't ask me why.
Be Safe
P.S. I ave an open mind though, when it comes to music, if it's good I'll listen to it... No matter what kind, as long as it ain't no commercial shit, or they're just rippin' off other artists music, then it's all good. |

I gotta admit it was pretty fukin hard fo me to find Pac (tru Hip Hop). because findin him is like lookin fo god(it was so fukin hard because of all of this commercial cRAP). it was like da glory wen i found pac cuz there was alot of new shit dat i found out and it opened up a new world for me!! And guess how i found pac THROUGH JA RULE (LMFAO) let me explain. i waz in school one day in science class and some kid i kno from a while bak tol me "yo check this shit out son is dope!!' i sed ight let me see then he put on the SO MUCH PAIN track by ja rule, i sed ight this is dope until da PAC part came out i sed OOOO SHIT IS SIKK this is 2pac DAMNN NIGGA IS SIKK i could feel his pain i was like dammmmm!! and i went home and downloaded madd tupac songz and from then on it was HYSTORY!!! THATS WHY I DONT REALLY HATE WHEN PEOPLE SAMPLE TUPACS STUFF CUZ THERE ACTUALLY HELPIN PEOPLE OPEN THERE EYEZ WIDE ENOUGH TO SEE THAT THERE ARE BETTA NIGGAZ IN HIP HOP!! BUT I ONLY LIKE IF ITS BEIN SAMPLED BY REAL NIGGAZ NOT LIKE JAYZ AND JA RULE (although jarule helped me see the truth). i think that these little kids are in da same position as i was in but u gotta give em time, cuz in time they will understand LIKE PAC SED!!!
PS tha first time i heard pac was wen i was 11. i heard da song changes, im 15 now..
i rep NYC FO SHO!!!!!!!!!!! |

I feel that the kids will get into Pac eventually cos I didn't know of Pac when he first came out. Shit it was bout 93 that I started knowing of his work and listening to it. But it was cats shouting him out that provoked me into listening to him. I see these cats that are hot today as a road into great Rap. If people really listen to what they are talking bout then they are gonna start wondering who this cat Pac is that they keep shouting out. Soon enough they will realise that Pac is true Rap and will get into it. Mak-A-Veli highlighted this in his case.
If they don't read so much into it then it ain't worth trying to understand Pac cos they are just living in the fad. They ain't true Rap fans. |

I think a huge part of Tupac's fan base is the younger generation. Just look at the age of most of the people that take part in these and other forums. I would say that the majority is the younger generation.
I personally CANNOT see how someone could even claim to like rap and not like Tupac. I just can't phathom that. |

I'm 18 and I started to listen to rap when i was 11. When i was 11 my lil gay surfer skater friends were pulling me in the alternative punk rock music untill i heard So Many Tears, the moment i heard that song it changed my taste of music. I got into rap cuz of Pac. Although i was young i understood his lyrics and loved his style so he was my first and only fav rapper. I was in shock when i saw on cnn the breaking news that he was shot. In conclusion the many people that didnt listen to pac while he was alive dont truly appreciate what he brought to us.

Nah I disagree with that too. It doesn't matter when you started listening to it, so long as your understand it. Thats all that counts. |
