Aaliyah plane crash investigation continues |
The investigation into the plane crash that killed 22 year-old singer/actress Aaliyah and eight others this past Saturday in The Bahamas, continues. The twin-engine Cessna 402B plane crashed into swampy scrubland and burst into flames soon after taking off from Marsh Harbour airport, bound for Miami. Police said that the aircraft had apparently experienced engine trouble.
There are also reports that baggage handlers warned the plane's passengers that there was too much baggage, but reportedly, their warnings weren't heeded. The Cessna 402B could carry up to 1,340 pounds of baggage, but there was no indication how much was aboard. Blackhawk International, a US company, which owns the plane has yet to comment.
With much of the focus on Aaliyah, the other passenger's names have finally been released: Anthony Dodd of Los Angeles, Scott Gallin, 34, of Pompano Beach; Keith Wallace, 49, also of Los Angeles; Eric Foreman, 29, and Douglas Kratz, 28, both of Hollywood, Ca.; Gina Smith, 29, of New Jersey; and Christopher Maldonado, 32, of New York. Also killed was the plane's pilot, L. Marael.
While watching BET's special tribute last night, we at EUR learned that Aaliyah preferred her name to be pronounced AH-Lee-Yuh as opposed to UH-Lee-Yuh, which is what most people say.
As of press time, there is still no word on funeral arrangements for Aaliyah or the other victims of the crash.
