AMARU/DEATH
ROW/INTERSCOPE SETS RELEASE OF 2PAC DOUBLE CD
OF SONGS RECORDED IN THE YEAR BEFORE HIS DEATH
“When
my mama ask me will I ever change, I tell her yeah…but it’s clear I
will always be the same until the end of time.”
--2Pac, “Until The End Of Time”
Until The End Of Time, a double CD of songs written and performed
by 2Pac during the exhilarating, controversial and ultimately tragic
last year of his life, will be released by Amaru/Death Row/Interscope
Records on March 27, 2001.
Featuring more
than 20 selections, Until The End Of Time brings together the
full range of 2Pac’s thoughts and emotions following his release from
prison in late 1995 until his death on September 13, 1996.
The tracks on Until
The End Of Time are the never-before-released recordings the
phenomenally prolific rapper was working on before his murder.
From the inspirational (“Letter To My Unborn,” “Until The
End Of Time”) to the combative (“Last One Left,” “All Out”),
from thoughtful touching songs (“Mama’s Just A Little Girl,”
“Happy Home”) to getting’ crazy party songs (“Let Em Have It,”
“Thug N U Thug N Me”), Until The End Of Time delves into the
complete 2Pac, tracing his life and experiences as expressed through his
own words and many of the songs he intended to be on his next album.
Executive
produced by Suge Knight and Afeni Shakur, Until The End Of Time
was culled from 2Pac’s Death Row catalog.
Until The End Of Time is the first of two double CDs of
songs from the same Makaveli period; the second double CD will be
released at the end of the year.
In late 2000,
Amaru/Interscope released The Rose That Grew From Concrete, Volume I,
an interpretation of 2Pac’s poetry.
In 1999, the posthumous collaboration Still I Rise from
2Pac & Outlawz was certified platinum.
The 1998 2Pac Greatest Hits album is nine times platinum.
The double album vault compilation R U Still Down? (Remember
Me) in 1997 went quadruple platinum, with the single “Do For
Love” gold. Under the
moniker Makaveli, 2Pac recorded Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory
just prior to his death and the late 1996 release went quadruple
platinum.
2Pac debuted as
a solo artist on 1991’s 2Pacalypse Now followed by 1993’s Strictly
4 My N.I.G.G.AZ. Both
albums were platinum and the latter spun off the gold singles “I Get
Around” and “Keep Ya Head Up.”
After the gold Thug Life: Volume I with the group Thug
Life in 1994, the double platinum Me Against The World in 1995
debuted at #1 and spawned the platinum single “Dear Mama.”
In 1996, the first original double album in hip-hop history, All
Eyez On Me, debuted at #1 and went eight times platinum.
“How Do U Want It/California Love” became a double platinum
single.
Prescient about
his own death, 2Pac recorded a remarkable volume of material during his
final years. Following his
passing, as those songs are released, 2Pac’s significance and almost
mythic stature as the voice of a generation continues to grow.
